About Jeffrey

Jeffrey Zwirn, CPP, CFPS, CFE, SET, FASI&T, CHPA-IV, MBAT, offers security and alarm expert witness and consultation services to a diverse clientele including (but not limited to) consumers, private and public corporations, not for profits, law firms, burglar and fire alarm system contractors, system integrators, government, law enforcement agencies, and special investigators across the United States. He is the President of IDS Research and Development, Inc. and is widely considered by his peers as one of the leading Alarm and Security Experts the United States.

Jeffrey Zwirn is an active member of over a dozen industry organizations, including ASIS International, the Electronic Security Association, the Central Station Alarm Association, the National Fire Protection Association, the Association Of Certified Fraud Examiners, the International Association of Arson Investigators, the International Association of Special Investigation Units, and the International Association Of Electrical Inspectors.

Zwirn built his first alarm system at just nine years old and from there began pursuing the highly specialized skill set that would eventually define his lifelong career– and inspire many of the world’s largest alarm companies and manufacturers to retain him in crucial forensic alarm science investigations and consultations time and time again. Over the years Jeffrey Zwirn’s forensic expert investigations and testimony has helped factfinders uncover the truth, which has resulted in Plaintiffs jury awards and verdicts totaling millions and millions of dollars. With this in mind, on forensic defense cases, Jeff’s specialized expertise has helped jury’s find in favor of the defendant as well, ultimately saving these clients millions and millions of dollars in liability exposure.

Notwithstanding the foregoing, Jeff’s expert consultation services encompass an even wider and broad range of specialties within the alarm and security industries, which includes, but is not limited to all types of alarm and security systems, fire, smoke, heat, carbon monoxide and natural gas detection sensors, central station monitoring. Jeffrey Zwirn has directed the security survey, need analysis, system recommendations, sales, design, installation, programming, testing, inspection, service, maintenance, and monitoring of thousands of security and life safety systems for a variety of residential, commercial, industrial and governmental facilities. He has also provided consultation services, critical insights and training curriculum to the full technical spectrum of the alarm and security industries, as well many government agencies such as the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF). Zwirn has also been an Expert Consultant to FM Global and a technical writer for publications such as Security Products & Technology News Magazine and the peer reviewed and nationally recognized Security Sales and Integration Magazine monthly column.

Zwirn authored the peer reviewed Alarm Science Manual™ which is an authoritative treatise that provides scientific advice, advanced methodologies, and real-life examples of tragedy and loss to emphasize the importance of reliable and effective security systems. Jeffrey Zwirn has also been honored to be appointed as a Designated Expert Instructor for the New York City Police Department, for over twenty years. In addition, Zwirn’s advanced educational curriculum as subsumed in the Alarm Science Manual™, is part of the New York Police Department’s training curriculum.

Zwirn has also been appointed and received commendation for his work in providing scientific and technical test questions for many nationally recognized certification programs, such as the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies Fire Alarm Systems Certification Program (NICET®) Levels I to IV. Zwirn has also been tasked to provide questions for the Internationally Recognized Certified Protection Professional (CPP) Certification Program, administered through the Professional Certification Board (PCB) of ASIS International, which is the world’s largest security organization.

Jeffrey Zwirn has also been recognized, featured and published as a subject matter expert (SME) in a number of articles in peer reviewed national trade publications across the country, highlighting the criticality of performance based and reliable alarm and security systems, Alarm Science, defects and irregularities in system design, installation, and monitoring, and in ways to help combat and provide advanced countermeasures against highly skilled burglarious attacks by the criminal element, in their nefarious attempts to successfully circumvent the protected premises security systems.
